Angthom National Marine Park

This place was incredible. Took an hour by boat to get there and the boat tours around to several of the islands where it would stop and we could walk to look out points/snorkel/swim/kayak. It was amazing! At the last island we stopped at we decided to take the "walk" up to the lookout...it was ridiculous. 500 meters up, and it was a solid hike/more like rockclimbing in flip flops haha. Literally had to climb the most jagged rocks at the very top, but once we made it to the point it was amazing...overlooked many of the islands and beautiful beaches. Going down was just as bad as coming up, if not worse. We basically clung onto the ropes (similar to the ones they have at the Grouse Grind) the whole way. It was probably 10x worse than the last quarter of the grouse grind (but mostly just at the top of it...the bottom portion wasnt THAT bad). Anyways, just a short update, but we are going to a Half Moon Party tonight (its in the jungle as opposed to the beach), so that should be interesting. we are going with some french people we met last night. We will probably be here for a couple more days before we head to Chang Mai.

Ladyboy Cabaret

We forgot to add that last night we went to this Ladyboy cabaret show which was hilarious and insanely wild. You would neverr EVER believe that these girls are actually "guys". we were boggled. they did performances as Tina TUrner, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Beyonce...haha they always try and recruit guys from the crowd too (the one bar where girls dont have to worry about being pestered) and one of the guys we were with got pulled up and then they dressed him up and made him dance around on stage. After that bar we moved on to AC Bar which our friend scootered us to, at this place they had all the classic fluorescent paint etc that you see in pictures. It was VERY fun!

More floating market/arrival in koh tao

BKK/Floating Market/lunch with amber and hanna

Koh Phangan

well my friends, we've hit the jackpot.
and that jackpot is Haad Yao on Koh Phangan. this place is unreal... we are splurging a bit and staying at a gorgeous little resort in a bungalow on the beach, its about 800 baht for the both of us, so around 12$ each. insanely cheap but expensive for here. the beach is amazing, powdery sand, turquoise water, great little bars/restaurants. i think we may be stuck here for a few days. this island is a lot different than the one we did our diving on (koh tao).. less westernized and much bigger. lots of farming areas and mountains and jungles. we are in the north end of the island which is MUCH nicer than the south end (around where the full moon parties are). we were going to stay at a place down there but realized we needed to go somewhere else, and thank god we did because there is no comparison.
anyways, we finished our diving course yesterday and are fully certified!! wooooooot! left koh tao this morning on the boat to where we are now. the boat ride was awesome, just napped on the front of the boat in the sun. we are pretty excited to just relax for a couple days and not wake up at 6am to go diving. i think tomorrow we are going to go on a tour of the Angthong National Marine Park which looks gorgeous. the boat leaves at 8am and we snorkel, kayak, and cruise around through all the little islands in the park. super excited!
thats it for now.

View from hotel, confined scuba lesson, fire dancers along beach

HEY! still in koh tao... started our scuba diving lessons yesterday in the pool - practiced how to breathe underwater, do some emergency skills etc. then today hit the boat and went on two dives in the ocean which was so awesome! saw some cool fish, and went down to 12 meters which seemed pretty far down for us, but tomorrow we will do 18 m. it was hard for our ears to adjust at first to the pressure change but i think they will get used to it. (plus i have a cold right now which makes it worse! - maddy speaking fyi) other than diving training we've been puttering around the island, eating, drinking on the beach... they have this amazing soup here we've been eating for lunch everyday, its kind of like Pho with the rice noodles, then you load it up with your own spices, sooo good! the atmosphere on the island is great, everything is so chill and relaxed. each resort and restaurant has all these blankets/bean bags/or other sitting devices set up right down on the beach so you can eat/drink down there then these fire dancers come and perform every night which is pretty cool to watch. anyways, we will be fully PADI certified divers tomorrow which means we can do some diving in Vietnam and Bali later on! i think we are leaving on the 24th for Koh Phangan to the half moon party which is a big party in the jungle. then after that we'll try and get a cheap flight up to Chiang Mai (N. Thailand)! thats the news so far...
sincerely,
your beloved nomads

koh tao

our last day in bkk we went to the floating market which was veryyyyyyyyy cool but pretty touristy. all the little vendors line up along each side of the river and as ur paddle boat floats down they each pull u in with hear weird little hooks that attach onto ur boat. once u pass hrough the vendors though the place is amazing, all these little houses are built over the river and along it. after he paddle boat we had a chance to walk around the market a bit before going on a motor boat. we saw this guy holding this massiveboa snake at the beginning and we knew we wanted to be a part of that. so we bargained wig grid guy to let us hold his creature. it was pretty cool and not nearly as gross as you'd expect. we took tons of pics but will upload later. after the market we went back to the city and met amber and Hannah for lunch on khoasan road but hen we has to jet cause we had a bus to take at 6. the bus was pretty funny, supposed to leave at 6 but left at after 7 andwas an overnight type thing but at 3amthedriver woke us unto get off and get on some other thing that took us to chumphon ( a connector town to the islands). we were pretty tired, after that bus (which was only 30 min) we had to wait at the dock till 7 whenour boat left for koh tao. so we are now on koh Tao which is amaaaaaaazinggggg. we are staying at this place called coral grand resort and it is on sairee beach which runs up along most of the western side of the sIsland, but he acual island is very small. we re taking scuba lessons starting today then we get 4 open water dives. after it will give us our certification for diving up to 18 meters. most of the plats here give u accommodation when u book a dive course so we will be in this place for probably 5 or 6 Nights even though our course is only 3 days ( we cut a deal to give us free accompdation for a couple days following the course). we went to a bar called the lotus last night ( thanks b!) and it was very fun. there were these insane fire shows going on for a few hours, it was wild. anyways we are about to head to our scuba session, we will upload pictures later on! xoxo

Amazing pad thai on Khao San Rd, and Patpong market

Mae Nam Chao Phraya/Dinner with James

More grand palace

Beijing Airport...8 hr layover

The Grand Palace/Wat Phra Keaw (?)

What is the difference between Hollywood and Holywood?

We spent some time yesterday going to the Grand Palace, walking around, and then we hit Khosan Road w\hich is where all the toursits go and stay, its quite cute and bumping with activity. Last night we went for dinner with our new friend, James, who is from Singapore and runs a anti-aging/skin care consulting firm. we kept running into him in the elevator and we spent sometime tlaking. He is here for some group Christian stuff and traveling alone so i think he wanted some friends. we agreed to go for dinner, after we established that he wasnt a pervert or anything wild haha. the dinner was a nice little japanese place (not sushi style), and he bought it for us. After a lotof talk about our lives and his life and what not he gave us some homework for today...he wanted us to tell him the difference between what our idea of hollywood and HOLYwood is. We told him we would come back to him with some answers...so were still working on it. After our dinner maddy and I went to Patpong market which was so funny...theyve cracked down a bit on its 'wildness' cause it is pretty perverted and aggressive haha. Everyone there tries to recruit you to come to the sex/lady shows...."P**** cuts banana", "p****shoots out ping pong", "free show no charge"...pretty outrageous stuff. and they pester u so much so whenever they tried to get us to go in we would try and take pictures of their sheets which they show you listing all the different type of "shows"...then they would bugger off cause they dont like u taking pictures. We are obSESSED with the street padthai and this green curry...it is amazinggggggggg. Today we tried to go to some palace but turns out alot of things are closed cause its Buddha Day or something. so we are back on Khosan road, puttering around. we just bought our bus ticket to go down to Koh Tao where we are gonna go scuba diving etc, it leaves at 6pm and goes overnight to Chumphuon where we will take a boat to Koh Tao. Tomorrow we are also going to the floating market which is a couple hrs out of BKK but it looks pretty cool. anyways all in all BKK is awesome, the weather is outrageously hot and super fun, its not as smoggy as we thoughgt it would be, and we cant wait to go down south to the islands!!
probably report back in a couple days. xoxoxox

Bangkok

HELLLLLLOOOO,

Today was our first full day in Bangkok and it was GREAT. It was so good to arrive in BKK and not haev to go scrounging around for a place to stay. Our hotel is in this area called Siam Square which is very cool, lots of little clothing markets and shopping places. So we puttered around a bit last night when we got in then by that point got too tired and went to bed. We went to the Grand Palace today (Wat Prah Kewh i think its called) which was this amazzzzzzzzzing conglomeration of temples and stuff related to the King (who everyone insanely praises here)...apparently he loosk a lot like Mad's uncle...haha. I tried to upload a lot of pics but the computers here are really confusing and everything was in thai and now there is only 2 minutes left. F. frantic. ok. OH were going for dinner in 15 minutes with this Malaysian friedn we made in the hotel...i think hes 60. and hes a devout Christian. started giving maddy and I a lesson about demons and stuff haha we felt bad cause we burst out laughing but didnt mean to it was jus ttoo funny. 1 minute. ugh.
we will write more tomorrow.
